Happy Birthday Flaco, welcome to Lauders!

Botanical gardens St.V

The Grenadines group has a lot to celebrate, but before it’s too late we want to say happy birthday to their famed leader, Flaco!

Another reason to celebrate, the group arrived in Lauders this morning! With a warm welcome from our dear friends the Cupids, the group settled into their new home for the next 10 days. The group attended church this morning, where they met many of the community members. Then enjoyed lunch, and spent the afternoon unpacking and planning. Tomorrow camp opens! We do not know how many children will attend tomorrow, but the group is excited for the first day.

Before getting to Lauders, the group spent two full days in Kingstown where they visited the botanical gardens, enjoyed the beach, and began to learn a bit about Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. With Vincy Mas, the carnival celebration, winding down, the streets in Kingstown were bustling. The group went to the market yesterday and split into two groups for a mini MMT (Magical Mystery Tour) to learn about the island. They asked questions about the meaning behind the flag, local dance, music, and culture. At first the groups were shy, but this was a good introduction to learning how to ask questions and navigate a new culture.

In addition to all the activity of travel, the group has been spending time planning the day camp. They have many activities planned and are working on their leadership skills daily. Tomorrow, when the camp begins will be an exciting day!
