KENYA PROGRAM CANCELLED
While it had been our hope to offer our longstanding program in Kenya this summer, it is now clear that to do so will be impossible based on the current political and tribal strife in that country. As a result we are moving forward with our longstanding desire to initiate a program in Tanzania.
The Tanzania program will run on the exact same dates as the Kenya program (June 27 to July 31 or July 2 to August 5). The group flight will also depart out of New York City. The program itself will follow a very similar itinerary to that of the Kenya program, with an orientation outside of Arusha, a community stay/service project of two and half weeks, going on safari in the Serengeti and finishing with a coastal component on Zanzibar, an island off the coast in the Indian Ocean.
In the past we have frequently considered offering a program in Tanzania. The current director of Global Routes, Jason Sarouhan, lived and studied there. One of our former Board Members was the Ford Foundation's Program Officer for Womens Health in East and Southern Africa and is married to a Tanzanian, and many of our friends and associates have lived in Tanzania for extended periods of time. We have called upon all of these resources to create a spectacular program, replete with compelling cross-cultural opportunities, a world-class safari in East Africa's premiere game parks, a coastal exploration of the famed island of Zanzibar and lots of other exciting components.
