Homestay fun in Tanzania!

IMG_2852

Our group is on day 3 in the village homestay and working hard on the construction project, at the location shown above!  They have started laying the foundation and with all hands on deck, they are working along side local community members to finish the foundation in the first few days – from start to finish with mixing the cement to leveling it out.  They have received a warm welcome by their host families and are enjoying home-cooked meals and practicing new Swahili skills with community members.  The village and our student’s are participating in a local sporting event this Sunday evening which all are excited about.  The village is located on a great plain, with minimal electricity, which makes for magnificent night skies with thousands of stars to feast your sights on.

Some students are going to try their hand at cooking a meal with their host families this weekend as well.  These first few days in the host community are providing a healthy challenge of navigating a language barrier and learning about a new family’s home habits.  Many new faces for the Tanzanian community to take in, as it is for our group as well.  All are doing well and looking forward to further progress with constructing the building with community members while making new friendships in the process!
