“The program gave Will a broader perspective, deeper understanding, and profound appreciation for what is important in life. We are grateful to Global Routes for providing such a spectacular opportunity for the group members to become caring global citizens and develop their best selves. “

“By living in such close quarters and working so closely with his fellow LIAs, they made incredible bonds of friendship between them. Thank you so much for and exposing our kid to the world with such fun, rigor, and thoughtfulness. And for taking such good care of him.”

The Caribbean islands are breathtaking: white sand beaches, crystal clear blue water, coral reefs teeming with aquatic life, spectacular natural blowholes, mountaintop views (for those adventurous enough to make the hike!), all framed by idyllic sunrises and sunsets. In this fabulous island setting, surrounded by surf, sun and fun, The Grenadines students will learn to make a difference. The group will engage in hands-on service learning projects that grow organically from activities that promote genuine cross-cultural communication and exchange. Guided by experienced trip leaders, our students will take the time to get to know the people of the islands—the children, the teenagers, the adults, and the elders—and then, after learning a bit about island culture, they will design and create two five-day summer camps for local children. These “Windsor Mountain-style” friendship camps are the core of The Grenadines program and will be your main vehicle for interconnection and cultural exchange. Teenagers interested in teaching and leadership will have the chance to realize their skills in a real live teaching situation, with children from a completely different cultural background.
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?
This program is designed for students interested in traveling to an exciting destination to share in cross-cultural experiences, community service learning, and continued leadership development. We are looking for students who are interested in working with younger children and are eager to teach and share new sports, games, theater, dance, arts, crafts, music and other creative activities. Students who have had some leadership experience in their school, community, or summer camp will excel on this program, and should arrive with an open mind, prepared to meet new people, experience new cultures, try new foods, and have a lot of fun.
Discover, explore, and enhance leadership and teaching skills by creating and leading a two-week Windsor Mountain-style friendship camp for the island kids.
Get a taste of ‘real Caribbean life’ by spending two weeks in a small and authentic Caribbean community.
Work with Peace Corps volunteers on community service projects. Swim, snorkel, hike, and explore the natural beauty of the islands.
Sail the classic schooner The Friendship Rose.
Make new friends and have the experience of a lifetime!
