After our eight hour ride into Uganda, the group walked about ten minutes to visit and work with an organization called Soft Power Education (SPE). Funded by the UK to give under privileged children a base education for primary schools and the US to give the public a very inexpensive health program, SPE strives to find projects in communities for programs like Global Routes to help out with. We ended up painting two classrooms at a nearby primary school, and spent the rest of our time that day getting a tour of the many different facilities at the Soft Power Education compound.
The next day had everyone, ESPECIALLY Jeremiah’s heart pounding with both excitement and uncertainty. White river rafting on the Great Nile River was next on our agenda. Because there were so many people, we were split into three rafting groups. One by one we went down eight rapids ranging from grade 4-6, following our guides’ instructions with instant obedience. All three groups ended up flipping their rafts, which was both scary and exciting.
At the end of the day, we all agreed that it was an incredible experience that we will never forget.
